Portugal has a long-standing textile tradition, shaped by generations of skilled artisans working with natural materials such as wool and recycled cotton. Yet much of this expertise remains relatively unknown outside the country. Maison Altana was created to highlight this craftsmanship through carefully selected handmade pieces, produced exclusively in Portugal.
At Maison Altana, we collaborate only with Portuguese workshops. This is a deliberate choice, rooted in quality, transparency, and respect for traditional craftsmanship.
Each artisan we work with has a distinct expertise, developed over time through precise techniques and manual processes. Production is carried out in small-scale workshops, where attention to detail and material quality remain central.
Selected for their making, not only their design
Our products are chosen based on how they are made, not solely on how they look.
Before starting any collaboration, we visit each workshop in person. This allows us to:
assess the quality of the craftsmanship,
understand the production methods,
verify the origin of materials,
and learn the story behind the workshop.
Only pieces that meet these standards become part of the Maison Altana collection
A direct relationship with the workshops
We believe meaningful objects come from direct relationships. By working without intermediaries, we maintain close contact with the artisans and ensure consistent quality, fair practices, and long-term collaborations.
This approach also allows us to respect the natural rhythm of handmade production rather than forcing industrial timelines.
Preserving Portuguese textile heritage
Through Maison Altana, our goal is simple: to support Portuguese textile artisans and offer handmade pieces that reflect authentic know-how, thoughtful production, and lasting quality.
